My work has taken a new turn of late. The landscape. Wide open spaces, bogs, meadows, and villages. Views of my Vermont home. It has been a new obsession dancing in my dreams and waking hours. So much so that it has given me pause as to why this new obsession. I am not always certain where the muse is bringing me. I just know I have to follow her lead.
Contemplating on these recent pieces I am finding myself in awe of the beauty of mother earth. As I meditated on the origin of this inspiration… it connected for me. These recent paintings are not just landscapes…they are ancestors in another form. Ancestors of the earth and sky. Ancestors of the land.
I can feel their age and wisdom as they take form with paint. Whispering messages to me of long ago. There is something sacred about the land we walk today. As I paint I can feel the connections to the hundreds of years where people lived and died, loved and lost. The stories they can tell through the bittersweet beauty of the land.
So I will follow their lead into the wide open spaces of the lands and give thanks for their inspiration.
