Art Journaling:: It’s a place to play.

Where I can mess around and not have to worry about product. It’s a place to try new things and follow urges. I do that in larger paintings too…but there is nothing like playing around in the art journal. It’s like a permission slip to expand beyond and reach into the unknown of where my art can go. It is often the birth place of new ideas and new directions.

 

For about six months Cairns were showing up in my work. They would show up in paintings and I would notice them everywhere I turned. When I notice that…I usually take it to the art journal. Because playing in the journal is also a conversation. I can talk to these things that show up and learn from them.

That’s what I love about the art journal. It’s a place to play around, learn, and converse.
